Welcome to the memorial page for

Evelyn Pieper

October 24, 1920 ~ December 9, 2016 (age 96) 96 Years Old
Evelyn Pieper entered into the kingdom of heaven on December 9, 2016 at 5:00 P.M. She followed her great-grandson Ben Welker, who passed away the same day at 6:25 A.M., for a reunion of unimaginable joy. Ben loved "Na Na's" famous back scratches, so we're sure his first request on her arrival was to start tickling. Evelyn was born October 24, 1920, in the Zanesville Free Methodist Church parsonage, where her grandfather Reverend Oscar Stricker was the preacher. She was the daughter of the late Eldred and Lois (Stricker) Powelson. Evelyn was a graduate of Philo High School and the Meredith Business College. She worked for the WPA before marrying her husband, Norris H. Pieper, Sr. They met at the Free Methodist Church camp and married May 4, 1940. Together they raised three children and milked cows on the farm that they had worked so hard to purchase and build together. Evelyn was an "Avon Lady" for many years, driving to and from customers' homes, until just a few years ago. She was a woman of strong Christian faith, work ethic, and love. She was most content working in her flower gardens and reading books with a cat curled up on her lap. She is survived by her son, Norris (Johnna) Pieper, Jr. and a daughter Lynette K. Mealey. Daughter-in-law, Suella Pieper. Eight grandchildren; Kevin, Kent, and Kurt Pieper, Erin Welker, Tim and Bobby Mealey, Chris and Greg Pieper. Sixteen great children and 1 great-great grandson. A special nephew Dennis (Lorraine) Powelsom of Gilford, NH and a special niece Karen (Jean-Francois) Powelson-Chabud of Santa Fe, NM. Special cousins, Janet Powell and Rose Ellen Jenkins. Preceding her in death were her beloved husband who passed away April 1, 1990 just short of their 50th wedding anniversary. Her son, Daniel Pieper, son-in-law Bob Mealey, brother Myron Powelson and sister-in-law Betty Powelson, great grandson Benjamin Welker. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Meadow View Church of Christ, c/o Youth Ministry, 6750 Raiders Road, Frazeysburg, OH 43822. Services will be held at a later date. THE SNOUFFER FUNERAL HOME, 1150 WEST MILITARY ROAD, ZANESVILLE has the distinct honor of serving the Pieper family.
